Davis' Challenge To Ryan

Steve Davis says Colclough has to push on after Orient taster

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that the emergence of youngster Ryan Colclough is testimony to the work being down at Academy level by Neil Critchley, James Collins and the club’s experienced Director of Football Dario Gradi.

Colclough’s performances for the new Under-21 side have certainly caught the eye this season and resulted into a promotion into the first-team squad. With a couple of injuries and a suspension to Chuks Aneke, Colclough was given a late cameo appearance against Leyton Orient and nearly won the game for the Railwaymen with a couple of late efforts.

Steve told crewealex.net: “Ryan is a young player who is highly regarded in our Academy. He had been working with Dario and his group of coaches and has really pushed himself on this year.  He caught the eye in the pre-season and then for the Under-21s, so I told Critch and James that I was keen for him to train with the first-team.

“I thought training with better players would be a good experience for him and push him on further. He has done really well in the Under-21 matches and this call up to the first-team was a result of the hard work he has put him.

“He can score goals and create goals and could develop into a match winner for us in the future. He has had a taste of it now and will want more of it. He has to keep working hard and push for a regular place in the squad now that we have a few coming back.”
