Crewe penned back by two second half penalities from Ipswich

Harry Davis marked his return from injury with a goal for Crewe Alexandra’s Development squad but two second half penalties from Ipswich Town prevented James Collins’ side from picking up all three points.

minute leader, but the Ipswich goalkeeper would have been disappointed not to have done better to keep it crossing the line. Davis later left the pitch with a blooded nose just minutes into the second half and was immediately replaced by Tom Mullarkey.thDavis, who had missed the last six months after undergoing surgery on his knee, headed Crewe into a 14

Crewe’s first attempt on the Ipswich goal saw winger John Johnston shoot straight at the Town goalkeeper Michael Crowe.

Johnston was involved in the creation of the second goal after playing a one-two with the advancing full-back James Baillie. The right-back took the return pass in his stride before his deflected effort gave a stranded keeper no chance.

The impressive George Cooper then saw an ambitious effort from close to 35 yards tipped over by a back pedalling goalkeeper. It was a fantastic effort from the alert Crewe youngster.

Ipswich came more into the game and forced Scott Shearer into a couple of good stops.

Mark Kennedy’s young Ipswich side got themselves back into the game with an early penalty in the second half through Darren McQueen and were awarded another one in the final minute which the vastly Stephen Hunt drilled home to salvage a point.

Town also created chances with substitute Cory Galvin pulling a shot wide and having a headed goal chalked off for offside.

Crewe made some changes with Chris Atkinson and the lively Cooper making way for Joe Howell and Andre Brown.

Hunt never looked like missing and it ended 2-2.  The late penalty award saw the former Borussia Dortmund forward Baliant Bajner fouled after a really impressive run from Alex Henshall.
