Morris’ side stroll into Round Two after comfortable win

Crewe Alexandra's Under 21 side booked a second round Cheshire Senior Cup tie at Stockport County after defeating Altrincham with ease at Gresty Road.

It was a dominant display by Alex Morris' side, with Joe Howell and Andre Brown notching in the first half before Charlie Kirk, James Baillie and a Callum Saunders brace completing the rout during the second period.

Brown had the first chance of the game on ten minutes, meeting Charlie Kirk’s pinpoint cross with a well-placed header, but Alty keeper Callum Williams was equal to the effort.

The Alex took the lead on 19 minutes, James Baillie getting to the by-line and delivering a cross for Howell to ghost in at the back post and head into the corner.

Four minutes later and it was two for The Alex, Brown stealing possession on the edge of the Alty box and then striking a fine effort low into the corner.

Crewe continued to dominate possession and should’ve made it three just before the break when Brown capitalised on a poor back-pass to go one-on-one but he rolled the effort wide.

Charlie Kirk made it 3-0 early into the second half with a controlled volley after Tommy Lowrey's cross found him inside the box. Full-back James Baillie added a fourth goal when he arrived at the far post to notch home his first of the season. Baillie was in the right place at the right time to tap home.

Callum Saunders then completed the scoring with a well struck free-kick from 25 yards out that he guided into the bottom corner and he demonstrated his goal poaching skills by tapping home his second goal of the night from close range.

Crewe: Richards, Baillie, Neal, Finney, Mullarkey, Kearns, Kirk, Ainley, Saunders, Brown, Howell
