George Cooper tweaks his knee to rule him out of Bramall Lane trip
Crewe Alexandra’s talented teenager George Cooper has been dealt a blow after he picked up a knee injury in training yesterday. The 18-year-old was set to return to the starting line-up away at Sheffield United this weekend but he unfortunately twisted his knee in yesterday’s session and Steve Davis says he will not risk him.
Cooper has featured in 25 matches this season, scoring three goals during his first full season, but his last start ironically came away at Bramall Lane in the FA Cup replay.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “George would have started tomorrow so his injury is a blow for him and a blow for us. We are all disappointed for him.
“He tweaked his knee in a challenge towards the end of training yesterday and he has come in this morning and it is still sore, so I won’t be risking him. He could be okay but I won’t take that risk with any of our players and George being unavailable means it is an opportunity for someone else. “
