Club Fear Ligament Damage

Alex fear striker will be out for weeks with ankle injury

Crewe Alexandra fear that striker AJ Leitch-Smith will be ruled out for a number of weeks after he left Fratton Park on crutches. The club fear that Leitch-Smith has suffered ankle ligament damage after being caught by a reckless tackle from Portsmouth midfielder Brian Howard. The offender was booked for the offence, whilst Leitch-Smith was replaced by Byron Moore.

Leitch-Smith has a lot of suffering on both sides of his ankle and the club medical team will allow that to subside before fully assessing the damage.

After the club’s 2-0 defeat at Pompey, Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Howard went through AJ to get the ball if you like and was deservedly booked for the challenge, but AJ has come off worse.

“We fear he has suffered some ligament damage there and are preparing for him to be out for a little while with that. We will have to wait and see on how severe it is, but it doesn’t look good.

He added: “That wasn’t the only incident. They had six players booked and we were disappointed with the officials on the day, because we felt that one or even two of their players could and should have been sent-off.”
