Out of contract Clayton plays an hour for Sunderland
Out of contract Max Clayton played an hour of Sunderland’s pre-season win over Hartlepool United last night. Clayton is currently on trial with Gus Poyet’s side after rejecting Crewe Alexandra’s offer of a new contract.
The England youth International, 19, didn’t score in the Black Cats 3-0 win over Hartlepool but impressed with his all-round game.
Clayton had his initial trial period extended by Poyet as he wanted more time to consider taking the highly-rated youngster on a permanent deal.
Due to his age, a transfer fee would have to be decided between the two clubs or would be settled by an independent tribunal.
