Clayton Back In Crewe Squad

16 April 2014

Max Clayton set to be named in Crewe squad for Good Friday after six months out

Max Clayton looks to have trained his way into the Crewe Alexandra squad for our Good Friday fixture at Shrewsbury. Clayton would have been in the words of boss Steve Davis ‘a calculated risk’ to be included for the visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday but the England youth international will be considered for the trip to the Greenhous Meadow after getting another week of training under his belt.

Clayton has not played since fracturing his ankle against Wycombe Wanderers in an FA Cup tie back in November but after working exceeding hard over the course of his rehabilitation, he is on the verge of a comeback.

Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “Max is under consideration for the squad on Friday. I will have to assess if he is ready to start because you have to remember that he hasn’t played for over six months now.

“He is buzzing around, training well and has suffered no discomfort from his injury. He wants to be involved and that is brilliant for me because he is telling him he feels ready to come back.

“We know what Max can offer us. He has got really quick feet and can take a goal and he could have an impact in the last four games for us. He has had some very good moments and his eagerness to get out there and do well will be a factor as well.

The boss added: “We have Chuks (Aneke) suspended so we will have a think what we want to do up there and pick the front four accordingly.”
