Alex sign attacking midfielder on two-year contract

Crewe Alexandra Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of midfield player Chris Atkinson on a two-year contract. Atkinson, 22, becomes Steve Davis’ second signing of the summer following the purchase of goalkeeper Scott Shearer from Rotherham United.

Atkinson has impressed on a short trial period with the club and scored in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Chester City.

The Halifax-born midfield player was released by Huddersfield Town in the summer after progressing through the ranks at the Yorkshire club from the age of just seven and going on to make 13 senior appearances.

Chris has also enjoyed loan spells at Darlington, Tranmere (where he faced the Railwaymen last season), Bradford City and Chesterfield. He enjoyed his most prolific spell with the Spireites scoring five goals in just 13 starts.

He has amassed 76 appearances in his career, scoring 9 goals.

Chris will feature in this evening’s friendly at Macclesfield. Kick off 7.30pm.

The deal is subject to Football League and Football Association clearance.
