Chance For U-21s To Grab Opportunity

23 September 2014

Steve Davis says door is open for fringe contingent

Crewe Alexandra’s assistant manager Neil Baker will take charge of the club’s Under-21 side for today’s fixture at Crystal Palace. Under-21 boss James Collins is currently away on a coaching course.

The likes of Brad Inman, Scott Shearer, George Cooper, Callum Saunders, James Jones and Chris Atkinson have all travelled to the capital to stake their claim for first-team involvement following the club’s heavy defeat at the MK Dons at the weekend.

Steve Davis has said that it is up to those fringe players to show that they are worth a re-call to the first team or in the case of the younger ones, a start.

Steve told crewealex.net: “If I was a player with the development squad today down at Palace I would be thinking that I’ve got a chance here.

“I would be thinking the first-team were beaten 6-1 on Saturday and the manager will be looking to make some changes if I can impress.

“I will get a full report from Bakes straight afterwards and I want him to come back to me and say he played well, he played well and we should consider him.

The Alex boss added: “The defeat at the MK Dons should inspire those out of the team to grab their opportunity. It is up to them to play well and put themselves forward.”
