Chance For Others To Stake Their Claim

9 October 2015

Steve says door re-opens for defenders Guthrie and Baillie at Oakwell.

Steve Davis says that the unavailability of players will only open the door for others to stake their claim at Oakwell tomorrow. The Alex boss has been forced to reshuffle his pack with a number of his first team squad injured and four away on International duty.

A mid-week injury to George Ray means the boss will have to reshuffle his back four with James Baillie handed another chance at right-back and Jon Guthrie being handed a chance in his preferred role at centre-half.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We have lost George (Ray) so we have had to do some work with the back four this week and develop those relationships. It will be a different back four but it is not as though they haven’t played or got the experience of this league.

“I keep saying that we consider Jon to be a centre-half so this is a chance for him to stake a claim in that position.

“It is another chance for Baills (James Baillie) to show what he can do. He has been in and then gone out again, so this is another chance for him.

“Sometimes in adversity we have really risen to the occasion and we will be looking for more of the same at Barnsley this weekend. It is always a good atmosphere at Oakwell and everyone is looking forward to it.”
