Byron Can Help Younger Ones

Davis is hoping experienced winger will stay and offer his experience to the new batch of kids

Steve Davis is hoping that he can tempt his experienced winger Byron Moore to remain with the club. Moore, 25, is now out of contract but the club are determined to make the Stoke-born wide man a good enough offer to tempt him to extend his stay at Gresty Road.

Moore has amassed 297 appearances for the club in all competitions and has notched 33 goals over almost seven years as a professional.

The Alex boss has permitted the likes of Steve Phillips, Mark Ellis, Kelvin Mellor, Abdul Osman and AJ Leitch-Smith to leave this summer, but he remains keen to keep one of his potential match winners.

Steve said: “We are talking to Byron’s agent and will offer him a new contract. We would like him to stay because on his day he is one of the best wingers in League One. He started and finished the season strongly for us and we know what he is capable of.

“We will work to keep him here because he has a lot of experience and he could help the younger players’ coming through. He is still only 25 but has played a lot of games and we know there is still more potential there.”
