Davis will look at fitness of his players ahead of Boro visit

Boss Steve Davis will check on the fitness of his squad ahead of the visit of Stevenage on Saturday. A gruelling schedule of games has left some tired legs in the Alex camp, and Davis says he will have to assess his side.

Goalkeeper Steve Phillips is Crewe biggest doubt with a groin complaint, meaning Alan Martin could be set for a return. But Davis told crewealex.net he will check on all his players before selecting his to face Boro.

Davis told crewealex.net: “We will have a look at them when they get back in today. I will have a word with Rob Sharp (Head Physio) and see what sort of shape they are in. We will look to take care of them.

“I have spoken with the players and told them that if they are mentally or physically tired then they need to be honest with me. We have that sort of relationship and they will make the right decision for the team.

“We have options and if somebody is struggling we can put somebody in that is fresh. Byron (Moore) came back in for the Carlisle game and there are others waiting for a chance too.”
