Boss Targets Back-To-Back Wins

9 February 2016

Steve Davis says his confident Alex side can upset the odds and get something from home clash with high-flying Walsall.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is targeting back-to-back home wins when Walsall head to South Cheshire this season. Crewe won their first home game since late November on Saturday with Marcus Haber and Brad Inman both on target against Rochdale and now Steve is hoping his team can stretch their unbeaten run to five games with another positive display against the Saddlers.

Ahead of this weekend’s fixture at Gresty Road, Steve told us: “It would be nice to do a double at home and get another three points. We haven’t done back-to-back wins and reiterated to the players last week that the home form has not been good enough.

“I was pleased with the way they responded and the performance they put in against Rochdale. We are looking more dangerous and defending better so the improvement has been there for everyone to see.

“We need to keep winning our home games because that would give us a great chance of avoiding relegation.

“We just have to focus on ourselves and make sure we play well to make sure we fight for every point. That is what we are doing but no-one here is getting carried away. We have to keep working hard play well. We know that we cannot afford to carry too many players if we are to get results.

“The players are beginning to realise that on any given day, if they perform to their potential then they are good enough for this division. The confidence is there and they have to keep going.”
