Steve Davis says he is surprised to see Orient in the bottom four with us

Steve Davis admits he has been a little surprised by Leyton Orient’s indifferent start to the new season. The O’s lost their manager Russell Slade to Cardiff City earlier in the season and they currently find themselves in the bottom four. A win for Crewe in London this weekend would see the Railwaymen leap frog them in the League One table.

Davis says that confidence has played a key role in our own mini-revival and he admits that he is wary of Orient turning the corner soon because of their calibre of player.

The Alex boss told the club’s official web-site: “They are all tough games and a trip to Leyton Orient will be no exception this weekend. I am surprised with the way things have gone for them this season.

“They were one of the best teams in the league last season and narrowly missed out on promotion. They have virtually the same group of players at the club but it just goes to show what a good start to the season can do. You build momentum and belief by doing well. Some of that confidence may have gone and it happened to us at the beginning of the season.

“They have lost their manager and have been taken over but the players are the same. They have good players and it will be difficult there.

“We go to London in good form in the league and the spirit is really good in our camp. Everyone is looking forward to it and hopefully we can get something from the game and continue our good form. We have something to really build on and we want to get into mid-table as quickly as possible.

He added: “We want to keep that consistency we have found going and we will be focussing on us and what we need to do to get a result.”
