Steve Davis says his players will be looking forward to a trip to Upton Park at the end of the month, but that their immediate focus will be acquiring league points against tough opponents. Crewe kick off their league campaign in the higher tier against hotly-fancied for promotion Notts County, before facing tough away assignments at Scuthrorpe and Brentford.
Ahead of the League One opener against County, Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I think getting West Ham in the Cup is a really exciting draw. We would have preferred to have been at home for our supporters, but I am sure the players will be looking forward to testing themselves against Premier League players.
“There should be a decent crowd at Upton Park, in front of a crowd who appreciate good football. It is something to look forward and a tough tie but our main objective to get some league points.
He added: “We have a tough run with Notts County and then Scunthorpe and Brentford and now have West Ham on the end of that as well this month before Coventry, so it is a tough run of fixtures but the reason we wanted to be promoted and why we were eager to get through the first round in the cup.“
