Boss On Walsall Encounter

10 February 2016

Steve Davis expects a proper footballing match at the weekend.

Steve Davis says this weekend’s encounter with Walsall with be an interesting one as both clubs need the three points for different reasons.

Sean O’Driscoll’s side will arrive in South Cheshire on Saturday aiming to safeguard their place in the top two. They are currently four points behind league leaders Burton Albion but both the top two have games in hand on those clubs in the play-off places.

Crewe go into the game at the Alexandra Stadium in good form after collecting six points from the last four games, having drawn three and defeating Rochdale 2-0 at the weekend.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “It should be a proper football match on Saturday but of course the conditions and the state of the pitch could have a bearing on that. We couldn’t play too much football on it on Saturday and had to adjust to the conditions because of the rain. I’m sure Walsall’s playing surface would have been better than ours at the weekend.

“They will be looking to bounce back after Millwall won 3-0 at their ground at the weekend but they are still superbly placed in the league. They will be aiming for a play-off place at the very least so they need the points as much as we do.

“We are fighting for every point at the bottom of the table. We are in a scrap and our first objective is to keep on clawing those points back from the teams above us. We want to get as many clubs as we can involved in it.

The boss added: “We have been in this situation before and have that experience on how to deal with it. We are playing well at the moment and we have to keep that going.”
