Boss Hails 'Excellent' Support

2 September 2015

Steve Davis thanks fans for their incredible backing at the DW Stadium.

Steve Davis has praised the ‘excellent support’ his players received at the DW Stadium last weekend. The Alex contingent totalled over 800 fans for the trip to Wigan Athletic and they certainly made some noise behind the goal the Railwaymen attacked during the second half. The support generated was unbelievable in the away section and the Alex boss has gone on record to thank them for their appreciation.

Crewe narrowly lost 1-0 thanks to a controversial early goal from a corner but a spirited performance, especially in the second half when we dominated the majority of the possession, drew warm applause from the Crewe fans at the final whistle.

Steve told crewealex.net: “I thought the performance at Wigan deserved more than what we got. It was frustrating but the fans, who travelled showed their appreciation at the end of the game.

“The majority of them stayed to the end to clap the players off because they knew they had given their all and played well against a side that had been relegated from the Championship last season. The players and staff showed their appreciation to the fans as well because their support on the day was excellent.

“There was 800 plus behind that goal and they supported the team from the first minute to the last. They were very noisy and they knew we had gone there and given it a real go. It is just shame that we couldn’t score that goal for them to make it a better journey home.

The boss added: “They knew it was a foul on George for the goal. They had the best view in the ground and they made their feelings known to the referee. I think all 800 saw it!”
