Steve says two clean-sheets on the spin have given Ben Garratt a timely morale boost

A double clean-sheet in successive games is just the tonic Crewe’s young goalkeeper Ben Garratt needs according to manager Steve Davis. Garratt kept his second clean-sheet of the campaign with a shut-out against Peterborough United on Tuesday night and the 20-year-old demonstrated a good level of concentration to make a vital save to deny Marcus Maddison late on. 

The Alex goalkeeper didn’t have too many saves to make against the Posh and that is credit to the work of those ahead of them. Crewe defended their box really well against periods of sustained pressure from Peterborough and deservedly achieved their second successive clean-sheet following a shut out at Walsall.

Steve Davis says he has been pleased for his young goalkeeper, he said: “We did concede a lot of goals earlier in the season and that affected our goal difference but keeping two clean-sheets and only conceding one goal in the last three games is helping that.

“Ben left the pitch on Tuesday night with a massive smile on his face and I am delighted for him and the team that we have been able to get two clean-sheets. I’ve told him that is what I want from him. We are defending reasonably well and restricting the number of genuine opportunities the opposition are getting but when he had to make a good save.

“I know that keeping two clean-sheets will restore confidence in our defending and I’m pleased that their hard work is paying off.”
