Boss Annoyed By Goals Conceded

7 October 2015

Steve Davis says the real negative from last night's game was conceding three goals to Wigan.

Steve Davis was disappointed by his Crewe Alexandra side conceding three more goals at home last night. Crewe had led Wigan Athletic 2-1 at the half-time break but let that lead slip from our grasp in the second half due a second goal on the night from the lively Jordy Hiwula and a wonder strike from Yanic Wildschut.

Following the 3-2 defeat to the Latics, Davis told the club’s official web-site: “The real negative was conceding three goals again. I thought we deserved to be 2-1 ahead at half-time and that should have been the platform to go on and control the game and the possession more but it didn’t happen.

“When we lost George (Ray) and had to reshuffle the defence, it disrupted us a bit and gave them an extra impetus. It was a positive for them and put us on the back foot and we wilted a bit. We couldn’t cope as they increased the pressure and put extra bodies forward. In the end that pressure became too much.

“We haven’t been able to produce that complete 90 minute performance. We haven’t been able to show that determination, organisation, concentration and quality for the whole game. It is difficult to do that regardless of who you are, but that is what we try and do.

The boss added: “We lost control of the game and when that happens, they panicked a bit, made poor decisions and ended up conceded those two goals.”
