Big Season For Vadaine

22 July 2014

Davis says former Lincoln man could have key role to play

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he won’t be taking any risks with Vadaine Oliver after he made his first start of the pre-season at Chester. Oliver scored a memorable goal against Leek on Friday night and was then handed a useful run-out against Chester after missing a period of the pre-season with an ankle injury.

The former Lincoln City forward rolled his ankle at the beginning of pre-season training and has been slowly re-introduced back into the games.

With only Mathias Pogba on the club’s books as a senior striker at the moment it could prove to be a big year for Oliver.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Vadaine had a little set-back with his ankle and he is a week or so behind the rest of the group. We are being cautious with him because we don’t want him to break down again.

“We will build up his fitness gradually and won’t take any risks. He scored at Leek on the Friday night and then he started at Chester, so he was a bit sore and stiff because he has missed more than the rest.

“We don’t want him to come back too quickly and be out again because this is a big season for him.”
