Baker: "Won't Be Many Changes"

22 August 2014

Neil Baker says players have to learn from Tuesday night's experience

Neil Baker has told the club’s official web-site that there will not be a flurry of changes in the aftermath of Tuesday’s heavy home defeat by Rochdale. Crewe were beaten 5-2 by Keith Hill’s side at the Alexandra Stadium – a result that leaves us in the bottom four and without a point.

Baker admits though that is not a time to panic and make wholesale changes and he and boss Steve Davis are keen to give players a chance to redeem themselves.

Ahead of our trip to Swindon this weekend, the assistant manager said: “I wouldn’t have thought there will be many changes to the team. That has never been our policy because if you make four or five changes and then we are beaten at Swindon, you have to go back to the four or five you have just left out.

“What is important is that you persist with them and give them an opportunity to learn from the mistakes they have made. It is all about the work you do with them and the players learning from the experiences of the last game, especially the younger ones.

“Now we can’t guarantee that they won’t make those types of mistakes again because there is no guarantees’ in football. What they have to show is that they are good enough by becoming consistent.

Baker added: “What we can guarantee as a staff is that we have them prepared as much as we can for Swindon this weekend.”
