Baker Says Work Going On Behind The Scenes

27 May 2015

Neil Baker says club have held talks with two defenders.

Neil Baker has revealed that the club have held talks with a left-back and a centre-back as they step up their recruitment for the summer. The assistant manager says that chief scout Chris Johnson and staff are also identifying possible ball playing midfield players as Steve Davis aims to strengthen departments in his squad.

Baker told the club’s official web-site: “We have held talks with a left-back and a centre-back. We are also identifying midfielders that could be realistic targets.

“We have spoken to some agents who represent them and have highlighted those that could be within our range. Some won’t be and they are quickly dismissed, so that is developing pretty quickly.

“We would also look for a quick winger because we don’t have one in the squad. We don’t have that lower in the ranks either. It would be good to get someone in who would come in and excite the fans.

“We will do our best to get the best we can get in. I don’t think we will have much movement in the striker department. Marcus (Haber) ended the season well and Lauri was recapturing his form from the last time he was here. We also have Ryan if he signs his new deal and we need to try and get George Cooper in the team more often.

“We also have Fraser Murdoch and Callum Saunders pushing for a place as well. I’m sure they will come under consideration as well.”He added:
