Baker: "Looking For A Reaction"

Neil Baker says players have shown in the past that they can bounce back from set-backs

Crewe Alexandra’s assistant manager Neil Baker has told the club’s official web-site that he expects he players to bounce back after Tuesday night’s disappointing 5-2 defeat to Rochdale. Baker admits that the dressing room was left ‘completely stunned’ by the manner of our defeat to Keith Hill’s side but Baker says it is how you respond to an early season set-back that shapes you as a player.

Neil told crewealex.net: “We have had a few results like that over the years. They have happened for as long as I can remember. There are times when all clubs have conceded a lot of goals in a game.

“When it does happen is becomes a real test for the players and the staff. It is how you recover as a team that is important.

“We have analysed the game and gone through the DVD with the players. The first thing you have to do is find out the reason behind why it has happened and then you can solve the problem.

“We know we didn’t defend well as a team. We made mistakes and didn’t protect the back four well enough. They were exposed on the night and we need to defend a lot better than that.

“The players were stunned after the game in the dressing room and they were disappointed with themselves when we went through the DVD. They were quiet afterwards as well but they went out and worked hard in training.

Neil added: “They know they have a point to prove and there is no better place to put in a positive performance than Swindon away.”
