Young winger needs operation on broken jaw

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis fears that he could be without his promising young winger Ryan Colclough until the New Year after it was revealed the Staffordshire-born teenager will need to have his jaw plated. Colclough will have the operation today and Davis believes it could rule him out until Christmas or the New Year period.

It is a blow for the club and for Colclough, who had begun to force his way into the first-team squad, making a bright cameo appearance against Leyton Orient and then again away at MK Dons. Colclough carried on playing after having his jaw dislodged by Darren Potter.

Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “Ryan will undergo an operation today and he needs his jaw plating. It is a blow because it will now keep him for longer than we anticipated.

He added: “There is a slight problem with the alignment of the jaw. It is only slight but it needs sorting so it could be Christmas or New Year before he returns.”
