Audel Answered The Questions

17 September 2014

Thierry Audel was handed only his second start for the club and didn't let anyone down

Steve Davis says he made the change at centre-half at Yeovil last night to give Frenchman Thierry Audel his chance to stake his claim for a place. Adam Dugdale dropped to the substitutes’ bench following his heroics against Port Vale at the weekend with Audel making only his second ever start for the club. His only other appearance came in the 3-0 home defeat by Gillingham back in November 2013 and he was loaned out to Lincoln City soon afterwards.

Audel, 27, came into the side though last night and helped Crewe record a deserved away point at Huish Park.

Steve explained his decision to go with the former Macclesfield man: “I just decided to go with Thierry and give him a go. He has been doing well in training and I just thought it was time to give him a chance.

“I think he answered all the questions with his performance. He played well and now he has to keep doing that on a consistent basis. There is no point playing well one week and then not so well for the next two or three. They all know that they have to play consistently well to stay in the team.

He added: “I spoke to Duggy (Adam Dugdale) about my decision and he was naturally disappointed because he wants to play every week. He understood the reasons and I was honest with him. I didn’t leave him out because of his performance on Saturday. I just wanted to have a look at Thierry and how he would handle it.”
