What the press made of the disappointing home defeat

The Sentinel
STEVE Davis came out fighting, despite seeing his side slip to their seventh defeat in nine league games.
It was just a shame his players didn’t show similar spirit during another second half capitulation, this time against the side who started the day just two points and one place better off than Crewe at the bottom of League One.
Yes, the first goal is important, particularly in fixtures such as this where both teams were fighting for their lives, but games should not hinge on just one goal.
However, from the moment Freddie Sears pounced on some shaky Crewe defending to fire the visitors in front on 57 minutes you could see the confidence and belief drain from the Alex players as their fragility was exposed yet again.

The Chronicle
ANOTHER second-half capitulation has left Crewe Alex cut adrift at the foot of League One.
After a goalless first-half the Railwaymen conceded three goals in 11 minutes against a Colchester team who started out second from bottom.
Like the last game at MK Dons, it was the manner of the reverse that was most concerning.
Once the first goal was scored by Freddie Sears the home side visibly wilted and the game was quickly put to bed with further strikes from Rhys Healey and an own goal from debutant Alan Tate.
The result leaves rock-bottom Crewe five points adrift at the bottom and manager Steve Davis under increasing pressure, with one league win all season.

Colchester Gazette
Colchester United secured an impressive 3-0 win over struggling Crewe Alexandra to claim their first league victory at Gresty Road for the first time since 1986.
Second-half goals from Freddie Sears, Rhys Healey and Sanchez Watt gave the U’s their second win under manager Tony Humes and helped pile the pressure on their opponents.
Colchester had to be patient before taking control, following a nervy first half from both teams.
But their second-half display was impressive and Humes was pleased with what he saw from his players.
