U21: Crystal Palace 1-2 Crewe

23 September 2014

The Alex Development secure back-to-back victories

Crewe Alexandra Under 21's recorded their third victory of the season from five games with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace in London.

Building on the 3-1 home victory over Huddersfield last week, James Collins' side made the long trip to Palace in search of their first back-to-back success of the campaign and were rewarded in just the fourth minute when Callum Saunders got to the by-line and cut back for James Jones to fire home.

Greg Leigh had a good opportunity to double the advantage after 24 minutes, but he couldn't keep his header down from Ollie Turton's cross.

The Eagles began to gain a foothold in the game and levelled after 33 minutes, Ryan Inniss heading home from Reise Allassani's corner.

Brad Inman went close to restoring the Alex lead on the hour mark when he lost his marker, but Kettings in the Palace goal saved well.

Just five minutes later, the Alex were back in front. George Cooper continued his fine U21 goal scoring form to evade the Palace defence to slot home from close range.

The hosts had late chances to level, but the Alex held on to secure the victory.

Crewe Alex U21: Scott Shearer, James Baillie, Perry Ng, Toby Mullarkey, Greg Leigh, Ollie Turton, Chris Atkinson, James Jones, George Cooper, Brad Inman, Callum Saunders
