U23: Coventry City 4-3 Crewe

11 October 2016

Defensive errors cost The Alex at The Ricoh

Crewe Alexandra Under 23'd suffered defeat at Coventry City's Ricoh Arena in a topsy-turvey 4-3 thriller.

Dan Udoh's brace and Oli Finney's strike wasn't enough to gain a reward for The Alex, as a lacklustre defensive display saw four goals fly into Dave Richards' net.

The hosts took the lead through Jack McBean early on, Richards dropping a cross for the poacher to stab home.

Crewe responded immediately via Udoh - the striker pouncing on an error by the Coventry keeper to slam home from just yards out.

The Alex went 2-1 ahead on the stroke of half-time, Alex Kiwomya won a free kick in a dangerous position on the right and Finney's inswinger bypassed everyone in the box and found the far corner.

Moments after the interval and it was 2-2, McBean again on the score sheet curling in from the edge of the area.

By 49 minutes Crewe had restored their advantage, Udoh grabbing his second firing in one-on-one after a cutting through ball sent him through.

In a blistering opening to the half, The Sky Blues levelled at 3-3 almost immediately, Kyle Spence firing in after more good hold-up play from McBean.

The comeback was complete for the home side mid-way through the second period, Spence notching his second of the game before they held Crewe off and saw the game out for the three points.

Crewe: Richards, Bullock, Ng, Nugent, Yates, Finney, Lowery (Pickering), Wintle, Kiwomya (Kirk), Ainley, Udoh
