U18: Sheff Utd 3-1 Crewe

FA Youth Cup conquerors come out on top again

U18 PDL2 league leaders Sheffield United ran out 3-1 winners against Crewe in Yorkshire, but the scoreline didn't paint the full picture as the Alex youngsters played some of their best football of the season.

The Blades knocked Crewe out in the FA Youth Cup First Round with a cruel injury time blow back in October, & Lee Bell's side were keen to avenge that result.

Their football suggested just that too, with some mesmeric passages of play, but once again a lack of cutting edge in front of goal proved the teams downfall.

United went into half-time with the 1-0 advantage, the striker side-footing a first time finish into the corner from 10-yards from a low left-wing cross.

Luke Walley managed to scramble in an equaliser mid-way through the second period for the Alex to underline their supremacy, but that work was undone by two late goals for the hosts.

Both finishes, on 80 & 86 minutes respectively, were fantastic finishes into the top corner, but were harsh on Crewe who deserved at least a point from the contest.

Crewe: Wardley, Offord, Sass-Davies, Wilkinson, Johnson, Harrison, Lundstram, Lynch, Pickering, Griffiths (Hurst), Walley (Thompson)
