Two Midfielders Bossed The Game

22 March 2017

David Artell says Jonah and Bingham controlled the game against U's.

David Artell has praised the performances of his two central midfield players, James Jones and Billy Bingham after they helped us secure a second straight win with a 2-0 win over play-off hopeful Colchester United on Saturday.

Artell was pleased with the way his two central midfielders continued to get the ball down and play in the second half against the U’s. Although there was the only one goal in it until the closing minutes, Artell was delighted with the way they kept calm and bossed the possession.

Dave told crewealex.net: “People forget how young James Jones is but his courage to get on the ball is second to none. He always wants the ball. He will make mistakes and be inconsistent sometimes, but he keeps getting on the ball and tries to influence the game.

“Billy was excellent as well on Saturday. He wanted the ball and kept us ticking over. I thought he was excellent with and without the ball. He kept wanting it and moving it. We didn’t just lump it foward like we did against Newport County in that second half.

“I told them to continue to play with courage and pass the ball. They did that and Billy and Jonah played a massive part in that.

He added: “I thought that Billy was man-of-the-match for us on Saturday and they learned from the mistakes made against Newport when we gave away possession far too easily for my liking. We kept the ball a lot better. “
