Team Unity Prominent At Euros

29 June 2016

Steve Davis says teams in France are showing the importance of work ethic.

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis says that the success of so-called smaller nations at the European Championships in France shows how important team unity and organisation is for success.

England surprisingly exited the Euros at the round of 16 stage following a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Iceland on Monday evening.

Davis believes that team unity and a strong work ethic pays dividends over individuality.

Steve said: “Teams like Iceland, Poland, Hungry, Wales and even the two Ireland's have worked hard for their rewards during the tournament. They have been underdogs in most of their games but they have shown what can be achieved by being a united team.

“They will have players of Championship or League One level up against so-called superstars but it goes to show what can be done against the odds. If you have strong, united group and you are organised and you do your jobs well then anything is possible in football.

The boss added: “The team ethic is the most important thing and then you need your creative players to do something special. I don’t think England had that type of player, who was going to do something out of the ordinary to break defences down.”
