Steve: "We Will Benefit From Bolton Run-Out"

22 July 2016

Boss says Crewe will still gain from tonight's friendly with a Bolton XI

Steve Davis believes this evening’s latest run-out against Bolton Wanderers will be another useful step towards our seasonal opener against Stevenage on 6th August. Crewe will be facing a Bolton Wanderers XI after incoming boss Phil Parkinson elected to take a stronger side to York City on Saturday.

Although disappointed not to be facing the majority of Bolton’s better players, the Alex boss says his team will still get the required match minutes they will need in preparation for the new season.

Parkinson has a number of pre-season fixtures to fulfil after arriving from Bradford City this summer and Davis says he appreciates his dilemma.

Ahead of tonight’s friendly at Gresty Road, Steve said: "We've got to make the game into something.

"There's no point us looking at the team-sheet and saying that we don't recognise any of those players, we can't do that, we've got to be flat out because we have to get the fitness out of them and that's what I will be concentrating on.

"We just have to focus on us, what we're doing and it's another game on our pitch which is good for the new boys so we will treat it just as another game."

"Phil did not have any say in the games because he came in to the job late and the games had already been organised for him.

He added: "I think they had organised four games in a week and I think they only have about 15 senior players signed up and then a bunch of kids.”
