Steve: "We Cannot Play Any Better Than That"

26 December 2016

Steve Davis gives us his post-match reaction following a excellent performance.

He added: "I thought it was a definite penalty, but he didn't blow his whistle. I was really surprised, he misjudged it and held his arm outwards. It hit his arm - it's a penalty by the letter of the law he should have given it.

"The players are disappointed they haven't won it, but you could see a roll-your-sleeves-up type of attitude from them, they were making sure we got a least a point from it even after the penalty appeal."

"That's what we are looking forward from here.

"We had good vocal support and the atmosphere was different, the players have to get the fans up for every game - that's vital to getting the results we need.

"What we have to do is do that against Accrington and Morecambe and drop our standards, I hope it is a springboard now.

"We have had some very disappointing days after a brilliant start, hopefully now we have come out of the dip now. We have shown today against second-place in the league we can be as good as them, if not better.

"I don't know what the chance-count was today but we had a lot of chances, but it wouldn't go in for us.

"George wasn't even going to play, he has a problem with his groin, but he turned up today and said it felt okay and wanted to play - I'm glad he did because he has that ability from dead ball situations. I'm pleased we scored a free-kick of that nature to get back in the game.

"It certainly warmed me up and the supporters up, I wish that we could do it every week it would be an easier job!

"If you look at the two teams we looked like the side who are up there, I thought we were slightly better than them.

"I can't ask for any more I thought they were terrific all the way through, we had a lot of crosses and a lot of good chances, and we defended well when we had to.

Following the 1-1 draw with the Cumbrians, Steve told the club's official web-site: "We can't play any better than that with this group, particularly after the run we've had. We didn't get our reward that's the only downside.

Steve Davis was pleased with the response of his Crewe players after they more than matched high-flying Carlisle United at Gresty Road following three straight defeats in League Two. The Alex were superb this Boxing Day and probably deserved to snatch all the points after having a late penalty call turned down for a Tom Miller handball.
