Steve: "Lack Of Confidence In The Performances"

17 December 2016

Alex boss gvies us his post match reaction from the Abbey Stadium.

Following a 2-1 defeat at the Abbey Stadium, Alex boss Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “We have had a good honest chat in the dressing room, like we always do about where we are at the moment because there is a lack of confidence in the performances.

“Some of them are questioning their individual performances because they are not reaching the level of performance we expect. They have shown it earlier in the season but the results are having a effect on them. It is spilling over into the performances now and we have got to work hard, stick together and make sure we stop the run we are on.

“The only way we are going to do that is by sticking together and working hard out on the training ground and then doing it during the 90 plus minutes on the Saturday. We are disappointed because we really thought we could come here and get something today. It has been really positive and the training has been sharp and good but it isn’t happening for us at the moment.

“They have got to restore some lost belief and that will only come from working even harder for results.

“I didn’t think there was much in the first half today. It was tight and although they probably had more of the ball than us, they didn’t force Ben into that many real saves. We got Lowey down the sides on a couple of occasions but I felt that we were fairly comfortable in our defending.

“Uche has then played a one-two, we haven’t tracked the midfield runner and Uche has gone on to poke it home. We then make a mistake on the edge of our own box and he has hit a worldie shot that goes in off the bar.

“We were 2-0 down and in a way the game opened up in our favour. The subs gave us some legs and some life and Billy has come on, got on the ball and bossed much of the last 20 minutes for us. We responded well after going two nil down. We could have gone the other way but we kept going and Jonah has scored a good goal to keep us in it.

“It was open and if something had dropped for us then we could have got a point from a difficult position.

He added: “We have to keep on fighting and making sure that we are confident when we cross that white line on a match day. “
