Alex boss gives us his post-match reaction following unfortunate defeat.

He added: "I thought we controlled much of the game and deserved something from our performance. They caught us out on the break to score the second goal and we were disappointed in the manner in which we conceded. "

"I am sure it won't bother him, which means that he is over the loss of confidence that could have come when he was younger. At times in the first half he was unplayable. He was a bit quieter in the second half but still produced moments that could have seen us get that equaliser. 

"George wanted it and took the ball and we were relying on him to finish it. I thought it was a soft penalty but I am not going to be too harsh on him. He has been terrific for us and kept going. He hit the crossbar about a minute later and his late free-kick was just over.

"George was the penalty taker. We were without Ryan and Chris. Daggers missed his last one so Ryan would have taken it. George was the next on the list and then Harry who had taken them before and been success.

"It was those little margins again and the decisive moment was the penalty miss. We were on top and our tails were up. At 2-0 I would have thought that we would have gone on to win the game. The miss gave them a lift and got their crowd behind them. They then scored just a few minutes later with some good movement and a good finish from Tanner.

The Alex boss told the club's official web-site: "I don't like hard luck stories but I thought we were excellent today and I told them afterwards. I don't think I could have asked for any more from them. We were excellent throughout and I didn't think we deserved to lose because they worked hard and some of our football at times was terrific.

Despite losing our second successive league game, Steve Davis said his players were excellent this afternoon after an impressive performance against the current league leaders. Plymouth extended their unbeaten run to 14 games in League Two but they were made to work exceedingly hard to claim all three points after Alex Kiwomya had fired us into a 16th minute lead.

Crewe had the perfect chance to go 2-0 up but George Cooper had his 'soft' spot kick saved by Luke McCormick.
