Steve On Wolves Loss

4 October 2016

Steve Davis gives us his post-match reaction after narrow defeat to Wolves

He added: "With Accrington winning as well, we are all on three points so it makes our game against Chesterfield more interesting next month."

"Although we have lost the game, we showed a real positive approach in the second half and there were some positive performances to take from the game as well. I thought Cooper was terrific and he would have caught the eye. Young Lowery came on and had an influence and impact straight away and Kirk was a threat when he came on."

"We said at half time that we wanted to make it more of a contest and have a go. We wanted to attack them and take it to them a bit and we did that. Our play was much better in the second half and our play went up a notch. We caused them a lot of problems. We were a lot more forceful in the second half and ran around a lot more.

"I thought it was going to go to penalties but we encourage them to go forward, looking for that a third goal and win it, and then we have made a mess of it and they have nicked it. We have gifted them that third goal and the second goal we have marked from the corner. Ryan (Wintle) has lost his man and he has stabbed it in. It's those little things and their goalkeeper has made some terrific saves at the other end as well to keep them in it and Dicko has that quality.

After the 3-2 defeat, Steve told the club's official web-site: "We feel we were unlucky not to get something from the game tonight,  particularly second half because it was an excellent performance, attacking wise, passing wise. We created numerous chances in the last 20 minutes and we looked the more likely side to go on and win the game when we got it back to 2-2. we fought back well from 2-0 down to level things up. Ryan has come on to score again and when you have him and Daggers on the pitch, you always have a chance of scoring a goal or getting chances.

Steve Davis was rightly encouraged by his side's spirited fight back against Scott Sellars Wolverhampton Wanderers this evening but he was left disappointed by the manner in which we conceded a avoidable winner. A defensive mistake between Guthrie and his goalkeeper Garratt allowed Bright Enobakhare to steal in and seal the Group B points in the dying minutes.
