Ray: "I Would Love To Stay Now"

28 March 2017

George Ray is hoping he can stay at Crewe after winning his place back in the team.

George Ray is hoping to put the ‘worst six months of his career’ behind him by finishing the season strongly to win himself a new contract at the club. Ray is out of contract in the summer, but the newly named club captain is hoping he has done enough to stay at Crewe Alexandra. The former Wales Under-21 defender has been in superb form since being handed a fresh chance under new manager David Artell.

Ray admits that he was prepared to move on during the January transfer window after finding it hard to nail down a place in Steve Davis’ starting XI.

Ray told Crewe Alex PlayerHD: “You have to keep yourself going in football because it can change very quickly. I have gone from not playing to captain in six months and I am really enjoying my football again.

“As soon as the new manager came in, he said that I would get a chance and I knew that when it came I had to do my best to take it.

“I wanted to go. I wasn’t playing and was down to the last six months of my contract. I wanted to play, so I was thinking it was better if I went, but like I say it can change very quickly.

“I want to stay now. I would love to stay. I have seven games left to show that I deserve a new contract. Hopefully I can do that; we can talk and get it done.”
