Two late goals ruined Crewe Alex’s day in the sunshine as the new League Two leaders took the spoils at Home Park on Saturday.

An early James Jones strike was the least they deserved for a commanding first half display in which they bossed Plymouth in all departments.

They could, and should, have had more goals but still looked more than comfortable going into the final quarter.

But the wheels came off when Ryan Taylor levelled on 74 minutes and Nathan Blissett headed the winner on 79 minutes, giving Argyle what had looked an unlikely victory.

Defeat in their final away game of the season means Crewe finish with a record on the road of six wins, six draws and 11 defeats.

But they will take plenty of positives from their overall performance on a big stage.

PLYMOUTH Argyle are top of League Two with only one game to go after a stunning second half comeback to beat Crewe at a packed Home Park.

The Pilgrims moved above previous leaders Doncaster Rovers, who were beaten for a third successive match as they lost 3-1 at home to Exeter City.

It means a win for Argyle away to Grimsby Town next Saturday will see them crowned as champions.

Yet, for much of the afternoon, it seemed as they would end up without any points, let alone all three.

Crewe opened the scoring in only the sixth minute with a long-range shot from midfielder James Jones.

Argyle laboured away without much inspiration after that until striker Ryan Taylor scored with an opportunist equaliser in the 74th minute.

And, five minutes later, substitute Nathan Blissett headed home with a goal which leaves the Pilgrims on the brink of winning the title.
