Places Up For Grabs

19 January 2017

Alex boss reiterates that chance to stake claim is there for everyone.

David Artell has reiterated to his squad that places in the starting XI are very much up for grabs. The new Crewe Alexandra boss has held talks with each member of his squad and has stressed that it is a fresh start under his leadership. Artell replaced Steve Davis on Sunday 8th January and has already handed George Ray a recall to the starting line-up. Youngster Charlie Kirk lined up with Ryan Lowe against Luton with the more experienced Chris Dagnall dropping to the substitutes’ bench.

Young midfielder Ryan Wintle was also introduced late on against the Hatters for his first involvement since November.

Artell told the club’s official web-site: “The players all know it is a clean slate for everyone. We want positivity around the place again and to work on rebuilding that confidence.

“Some of them are young players and learning the game. The game management can be better and they know we have to eradicate the mistakes that are costing us points. They don’t need telling that there is room for improvement, especially in both boxes.

“But they want to work and they want to learn. That is the feeling I get but we know it won’t happen overnight. It will take time to change the mind-set but we will get there with them.”
