Nugent & Saunders Rated As Doubts

23 September 2016

Ben Nugent and Callum Saunders unlikely to be in squad for Blackpool visit.

Defender Ben Nugent and young striker Callum Saunders are both rated as doubts to be included in the Crewe Alexandra squad for the visit of Blackpool this weekend. Both players picked up slight injuries in the club’s Development squad meeting with Colchester United on Monday evening.

Nugent has been struggling with a groin injury and has reportedly aggravated in our 4-1 win over the U’s.

Saunders, who scored twice in a comfortable win at Colchester’s Weston Homes Community Stadium earlier in the week, has been struggling to train after picking up a slight knock. Both are not expected to be included in the match day squad for the visit of the Seasiders tomorrow.

Steve told crewealex.net: “Ben has been struggling with a sore groin and he felt it more after the game on Monday. We are hoping it is nothing too serious but it is unlikely he will be available this weekend.

“The same applies to Callum. He picked up a slight knock in the game on Monday and he has had some discomfort there. He is a doubt.

“We have four out if you include Liam Smith and we don’t want that list getting any bigger. If it grows then we would be relying on some inexperienced players to be a part of the squad.

“He have had a settled team and squad this season, mainly because we have avoided injuries up to now, but also because we have been playing reasonably well and winning games. In the past when we haven’t started well, you are changing the team because you are looking for a winning formula.”
