Alex Kiwomya marked his comeback from injury with a goal as Crewe Alex took a point from Notts County on Saturday.

The Chelsea loan man came off the bench to grab an equaliser, just two minutes after the Magpies had hit the front through Jon Forte.

It was a fair result from a scrappy encounter but the Railwaymen are now six without a win, and are eighth in League Two.

Crewe made a strong start and forced three early corners, but the first-half soon became very scrappy and unproductive.

Goalmouth action was at a premium and both managers were doubtless pleased to get their men in at the break with honours even.

The second half was sparked into life when Harry Davis looked to have headed home from a corner, with the ball looking over the line, only for the officials not to give it.

County hit the front on 79 minutes when Forte nipped in front of Oliver Turton and rammed past keeper Ben Garratt.

But Crewe responded immediately, with George Cooper laying on Kiwomya’s composed finish.

Another week, another 1-1 draw for Crewe Alexandra as they drew by that scoreline for the fourth time in their last five games.

A game with little goalmouth action came to life in the closing stages, with two goals in the space of a minute, as well as Crewe being denied what they thought was a clear goal when Harry Davis' header appeared to have crossed the line.

The game's first goal saw Jonathan Forte give the hosts an 80th minute lead as he fired in from close range after Crewe gave him time to control and finish a right-wing cross.

Within a minute however, they were level. The returning Alex Kiwomya came off the bench to stroke home confidently after good work from Ryan Lowe and George Cooper put him in the clear.

That result leaves Crewe still in eighth position in League Two after going a fifth league game without a win.

Substitute Alex Kiwomya rescued a point for draw specialists Crewe Alexandra as they held Notts County to a 1-1 draw at Meadow Lane.

Both sides looked low on confidence in the first half, which was essentially a non-entity with goalkeepers on either side untroubled.

In fairness, the game did begin to liven up in the second half thanks to Notts' introduction of on-loan Wolves teenager Aaron Collins.

The youngster showed why he is so highly rated by the Championship side as he forced Ben Garratt into a save thanks to his persistence chasing a long ball.

He then volleyed over the bar, before a neat exchange of passes with Adam Campbell saw the latter miscontrol when in a terrific position.

Campbell then turned provider when his cross into the box was hopelessly defended, allowing Jonathan Forte to nip and put the Magpies ahead in the 80th minute.

But Crewe were level inside 60 seconds when George Cooper teed up Kiwomya to score with a superb finish at the ground where his uncle Chris had a spell as manager.

Notts poured everything forward in search of a winner and came close when Adam Campbell lashed a shot wide after Genaro Snijders had volleyed over the bar.

There was still time for Notts to waste another chance when Louis Laing sent a header wide of the far post as both sides settled for a point.
