Mellor Knows About Promotion From This League

23 September 2016

Boss looking forward to meeting up with our former promotion winner this weekend.

Steve Davis is looking forward to catching up with our former defender Kelvin Mellor this weekend. The Alex boss knows the Crewe-born defender better than most having worked with him at Nantwich Town and then relying on him as a right back during our promotion winning season of 2012. Mellor also started in the club’s JPT success over Southend United a year later before not having his contract renewed in the summer of 2014.

Mellor, 25, moved to Plymouth Argyle and helped the club reach the play-offs in two successive years. Last season, he suffered heartbreak at Wembley as Plymouth lost 2-0 to AFC Wimbledon in the Wembley Final.

Mellor moved back North this summer to join Blackpool and he will make his first return to Gresty Road this weekend.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Kelvin knows all about getting promotion from this league. He did it here and he also has plenty of play-off experience with Plymouth.

“I think he wanted to move back up North and Blackpool will be perfect for him. He is closer to where he is from and closer to his family.

The Alex boss added: “It will nice to catch up with Kelvin because he is a good lad and a good player.”
