Lowe: "What A Great Team Performance"

9 August 2016

Ryan Lowe may make the headlines with his brace but he was quick to praise his team-mates.

Two goal hero Ryan Lowe told the club’s official web-site that although he is bound to make the headlines for firing Crewe Alexandra to victory in the EFL Cup at Bramall Lane, he only has praise for the contribution of his team-mates on what was a memorable night for the club.

Lowe replaced the injured Callum Saunders at Bramall Lane to score a dramatic equaliser in the final minute and was in the right place again ten minutes later to convert a knock down from Ben Nugent to put the Railwaymen in the hat for Round Two.

Ryan told crewealex.net: “It is obviously nice to win at a club like Sheffield United because we know they are a big club and have good players. To come here and win is great for everyone and although we were a bit rocky for the first 15, 20 minutes, we rode our luck and improved at both ends.

“I am sure I will make the headlines for the two goals but I am nothing without my team-mates. They were the ones putting their bodies on the line and the boys at the back and goalkeeper were great for us. Everyone was and that is what you need to do to win at places like this.esg

"We are in League Two and have to deal with it but it lays a marker to say we can compete. We have shown what we are capable of.

“The lads that have come into the team have shown what they can do and they will give the manager a headache. Nugent and Ray stepped up and young Perry (Ng) came on and did really well. Young Callum (Saunders) put his shift in and run himself into the ground for 60 minutes.

“It is my job to score goals but it was all about the team tonight. Everyone played their part and it is nice to win here and be in the draw.

“I would love to get Liverpool in the next round, I remember that Crewe drew Liverpool at Anfield in the League Cup a few years ago, but I had just left the club and I was gutted about that. I’ve never had the chance to play against Liverpool, so I would like the opportunity to do that.

“It’s just great to be in the draw and we’ll see who we get and take it from there.”
