Good To See Ainley Back Among The Goals

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis is pleased to see youngster Callum Ainley back among the goals for Alex Morris’ Under-23 side.

Ainley has scored in successive games for the Development Squad and is recent form saw Davis turn to him in the second half against Yeovil on Saturday. It was Ainley’s delivery into the Yeovil box that saw Chris Dagnall head onto the crossbar as Crewe searched for a deserved equaliser.

Steve told crewealex.net: “Callum is a talented player and he has just suffered a little dip in form, like all young players do. We just took him out for a bit, so he can recapture his confidence playing for the Under-23s.

“These young players will be up-and-down. It is to be expected and we will take them out when the time is right.

“They are under enough pressure to keep developing as a young player, never mind having to perform consistently well in the first-team. We will manage them in the right way, be it Callum, Charlie (Kirk) or Tom (Lowery) who have all had a taste of it.

“We are sure they will become good players and I think Callum dropping down to the Under-23s and scoring some goals again has helped his confidence.”
