Davis Hoping For Yes From Transfer Targets

28 June 2016

Steve Davis says market is set to speed up as clubs start to return to pre-season.

Steve Davis says he has made his pitch for three potential new players and he is waiting for their final decision. The Alex boss has gone on record to say he wants to add experience and quality to his team after already securing the services of Ryan Lowe and Zoumana Bakayogo for the new season.

Davis is chasing a midfield player and another forward as his top priority and he is hoping to have a positive response from at least one of his targets after holding encouraging talks over the last couple of weeks.

On the first official day of pre-season, Steve told crewealex.net: “Recruitment is recruitment and it is a waiting game. It can be frustrating because we are not lucky enough to go out and spend money to sign six or seven players in quick succession.

“We were able sign two fairly early and we are pleased that Ryan has agreed to come back and that Zoumana wanted to stay. There are a few teams who have only just made their first signing. It takes time but now we are getting to the end of June and the period when players are coming back to pre-season training that they start to make decisions. Agents get a little more panicky because the players want to be sorted out.

“It has speeded up over the last couple of weeks and I have spoken to some potential targets. We are just waiting on their decision. We have made them the best offer we can and I have had the opportunity to speak with them and show they around the training ground. I have told them what we want to do this season and outlined what we can do for them.

He added: “There is usually a bigger offer elsewhere but sometimes you just have to hope you fall lucky and they decide to come to you.”
