Cooper Doubtful For Cheltenham Trip

24 August 2016

George Cooper was forced off at Blackburn and faes race against time to be fit for weekend.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has stated that his winger George Cooper may be a doubt for this weekend’s trip to Cheltenham Town after struggling with cramp in the later stages of normal time against Blackburn Rovers. Cooper excelled before he fatigued and was replaced by defender George Ray as Owen Coyle’s side began to bombard our box with high balls. Cooper played 80 minutes at Ewood Park before being replaced in our 4-3 extra-time defeat.

Steve admitted to crewealex.net: “George was struggling and had to come off. He was struggling with a touch of cramp and couldn’t continue. He has been asked to play a lot of football with the schedule and he isn’t particularly used to playing Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday.

“I considered giving him a rest but he has been playing well and can be a real match winner. He really gives you something in the final third when he picks up those positions in those little pockets of space. He is a danger to the opposition.

He added: “We will have to assess how he is but he is doubtful for the weekend because he can hardly walk properly at the moment. We’ll have to see.”
