Boss: "We Can Change Our System At Any Time"

25 October 2016

Boss says his flexible team can change systems if needs be.

Steve Davis has told crewealex.net that he has a few different systems up his sleeve as Crewe try and find that first win in eight games when we travel to Leyton Orient this weekend.

Although the manager does not have a bigger striker to rely on if we wishes to go longer, the players are certainly adaptable to switch into a diamond shape or play 4-3-3 again, like we have done over the last couple of seasons on occasions.

The Alex boss said ahead of our trip to London: “We have worked on different systems that allow us to have the two forwards on the pitch. The work was done over the summer and we are adaptable.

“We played a diamond for the last 25 minutes on Saturday and that allowed the full-backs to get forward move. We can also play 4-3-3, like we did last season. There is scope for change but there is also no need to panic.

“The front two have been terrific for and so have the wingers. Alex was quieter on Saturday but that was his first game back after a lay-off and he will be better for the 90 minutes.

“People will say we don’t have the option of a 6’2, 6’3 centre-forward but we have managed to come back in games without one as well. It would be nice to have one as an option but I do prefer us to play more football.

“When you have a big man up there, like we did with Marcus (Haber) it can provide an easier option for the players not to pass it as much and use him as a get out-clause.

“What we need to do is be better at what we are doing and be more patient in the final third.”
