Boss Could Freshen Things Up

27 September 2016

Steve ponders changes after two games in short space of time.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has intimated that he may look to refresh his team up for tonight’s encounter against Wycombe Wanderers. The Alex boss  felt that a few of his players looked tired in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Blackpool and the introduction of substitutes Callum Ainley and Billy Bingham certainly energized the team in the closing stages.

Davis will be waiting on the fitness levels of his injured duo Callum Saunders and Ben Nugent ahead of tonight’s game at Adams Park and he is certainly without loan pair Liam Smith and Alex Kiwomya, who are both ruled out through injury.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “It was a physical game against Blackpool. They had some big lads but I thought we stood up to them well and were the better side in the second half.

“I did think that one or two of them were a bit tired, they became a bit leggy and that is why I made the double substitution when I did. I knew that Billy and Callum would give us some energy in midfield. They have not played a lot of football of late, so I knew they would be fresh and lively.

“They helped us to press on and take the game to them a bit more in the closing stages. I thought they did well for us when they came on and it gives us another option.”
