Steve Davis admitted only a manager's instinct stopping him from substituting Ryan Lowe before he bagged Crewe a point against Blackpool.
With the Alex trailing 1-0 the striker looked a little jaded as the game wore on and he was getting no luck in front of goal.
Manager Davis said he considered bringing him off, but something told him not to.
He explained: I almost took Lowey off but I just thought he'd get us a goal. I'm glad I didn't now.
"I don't think you can take those players off even when they look a bit tired because they are always capable of getting on the end of a chance or something that drops."
Davis said he was relatively satisfied with a share of the spoils after a testing encounter with the Tangerines at Gresty Road.
He added: "I thought the second half performance was better. The first half was very even, we were unfortunate with the goal we conceded, the defence held a terrific line and the lad he was aiming for was offside. It got a deflection and went in, it's just one of those things.
"But they showed some fight in the second half and we put a lot of pressure on in the final 25 minutes when it mattered, showed good energy and got our reward.

Ryan Lowe's second-half header earned Crewe Alex a point against Blackpool at Gresty Road on Saturday.
The striker, who turned 38 last week, stretched to flick home a George Cooper cross to notch his fourth of the campaign and salvage a draw for the Railwaymen.
Earlier, a Jon Guthrie own goal had made their task harder and the home side failed to show their best form on a difficult afternoon.
Their best start to a season since 1995 has stalled slightly but, having lost their previous five to The Tangerines, Crewe will at least take some satisfaction from extending their unbeaten run to five games.

The 38-year-old glanced home a header to cancel out Jon Guthrie’s first-half own goal, which had gifted the Seasiders the lead.
