Bingham Has That In His Locker

Boss encourages midfielder to add more goals to his game after wonder strike at Blackburn

In form midfielder Billy Bingham registered his first senior goal for Crewe Alexandra with an absolute thunderbolt against Blackburn Rovers last night. Bingham did not break stride when latching on to a lay-off from George Cooper and his powerful drive, cleanly hit from 22 yards, whistled past David Raya for the opening goal in a seven-goal thriller. Crewe exited the EFL Cup competition after eventually going down 4-3 in extra-time to the Championship side.

Manager Steve Davis says that the former Dagenham man does have goals in his locker and that they are encouraging the 26-year-old to join in with attacks wherever possible.

Steve told crewealex.net: “It was a terrific strike from Billy and a really well worked team goal. We have scored some great goals already this season and that one will rival the couple that Alex (Kiwomya) has already scored. The goal of the season competition has a few candidates already!

“We know that Billy can do that. We know that he can shoot like he did and we were right behind it. As soon as it left his foot we knew it was destined for the top corner. His technique was perfect and it was an outstanding strike.

“Billy scored a few goals at Dagenham and we know we can chip in with a few here. He hasn’t really shown that here because of one thing or another, but we are encouraging him to get in those positions where he can threaten the goal.

He added: “If he can add five, six goals a season then he is really going to add another dimension to his game.”
